Featured this week is “The Other One” by the Henry Threadgill Ensemble. The renowned composer (and conductor) has come up with another major recording that further establishes his place as one of the most original and important composers in any genre. Also sampled this week are new releases from violist Mat Maneri, Swiss violinist Laura Schuller and quartet, Montreal drummer Michel Lambert with a terrific quartet from Finland, drummer Phil Haynes and his No Fast Food Trio, and a track from what apparently is trumpeter Kenny Wheeler’s first known big-band recording.
